Today, sad to report is the travel day home. I have completed half the tour and now must head home. I caught an early shuttle and made a noon flight and was back in Dimmitt by midnight. It is amazing how far you can travel when the day has an 7 extra hours in it.
When I think back on the week, I am in awe as always that a kid from Dimmitt Texas gets to go to the different areas of this world and experience God’s great glories. This trip was great from several standpoints, first I met and got to know some great trekking friends. Next, it was absolutely some of the most beautiful landscapes I have ever enjoyed seeing. I was blessed to trek in three countries and each one had a different complexion. In France, the mountain area was similar to what we have in Colorado. In Switzerland, there were more open and pastoral settings with low and high meadows. In Italy, virtually over a pass from Switzerland, the landscape changes to a more rugged mountain area. I loved seeing and hiking in all three.
I am not the strongest, fastest or fittest trekker, but I do good enough to survive most experiences. This trek was a very hard trek from the standpoint of the steepness of the inclines everywhere, both going up and down. But as most will tell you, part of the fun of hiking and trekking is to see how well one can push themselves. So when you see us on the trail, huffing, puffing and sweating, we are not suffering, but really enjoying the challenges. I loved this challenge.
Till the next adventure, may God bless you and your challenges.
