Day 11 – Viana to Navarette
20k – 172k to date
After stopping yesterday in Viana, this morning was an early wakeup call, someone decided that enough were up at 5:45 that it justified turning the lights on and waking all up. Such is the life of communal living. Speaking of communal living, I need to mention the nocturnal sounds of communal sleeping. More commonly known as snoring. Each night, out of every five people, there is at least one serious snorer and another “light” snorer, so if you have 10 people in your room, you have at least 2 major snorers and a few more contributing. To date, the most hilarious snorers have been, first place – a German lady that was cycling, she was asleep by 9 and the bed was shaking by 9:15 and did not stop till morning. Second place goes to a Spanish guy that was super nice while awake, but he had no rhythm or consistency to his snoring, he would saw logs for a minute, then grunt calling hogs, then blow the ceiling tile down and lastly, just barely whistled for a few seconds. I have no idea if his wife makes him sleep in the barn or not, she should.
To combat the night sounds, you have to have ear plugs, if you don’t you will be awake most of the night. Thanks Sherry for loaning me your ear plugs!
The hike today, took us down into the large town of Logrono. after a night everyone 10k walk through vineyards and rolling hills, we entered Logrono, a large metropolitan town. We entered on an industrial area, but moved out of that fairly quickly and got to the downtown area. Walking through a big town takes about an hour and half to across. During that time, it is a little nerve wracking to watch directions, traffic and other people. It is amazing the difference in the level of noise and activity in a town versus the country trail. Your senses get bombarded. about half way through the downtown area, we entered a park area about a block wide that went for over 6k west of town to a nice little reservoir. That park helped the jaunt through town.
From there, the walk was almost exclusively through vineyards into my stop for the night, Navarette. I am staying at a nice hostel where I had the chance to catch up on everything, even shaved finally after 7 days growth. I definitely am not a whisker person.
I am fixing to go plan for tomorrow.
